BDS in September 2025

The Month of September is the month in which many recognitions of Palestine are expected. Some have been announced since at least June, but then they were postponed by the Israeli war against Iran, then again postponed until the UN General Assembly in September.  

1st September: In view of the law prohibiting trade with the Israeli occupation of Palestine, Israel moves the issuing authority of bonds to Luxembourg from Ireland

1st September: The International Association of Genocide Scholars declared that what Israel is committing in Gaza is Genocide. In a vote 83% of the scholars supported the declaration.  

2nd September: eDreams has banned all the listings from Israeli settlements in the oPt

2nd September: Belgium to recognise Palestine at the UN assembly in September and issue 12 sanctions against Israel, ban imports from Israeli settlements in Palestine and sanction Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich. 

3rd September: At the Vuelta de Espana no winner could be announced for the stage due to Palestine protests

4th September: Prominent Mauritanian delegation of the Gaza Freedom Flotilla arrives in Tunis

4 September: 4 Pension funds from the Netherlands divest from Caterpillar.

5 September: Das Street Art Festival Ibug in Chemnitz stellt auch Exponate aus welche mit Antisemitismus Vorwürfen konfrontiert wurden wie etwa ein Netanyahu Sticker Set Gaza welches verstümmelte Kinder beinhaltete oder Trumps Gaza Riviera zum Thema hatten.

6th September: The Voice of Hind Rajab won the Silver Lion at the Venice Film Festival. The film also received a record standing ovation of 23 minutes. The former record was 22 minutes by Pan’s labyrinth at Cannes.

6th September: The Government of Asturias will boycot the Vuelta de Espana over the participation of Israel.

8 September: Spain announces new sanctions against Israel, and bans trade with Israeli settlements in the West Bank and also extends its weapons embargo over Israel. It has though still to pass formalities. 

8 September: Over 1200 actors, directors among them figure Tilda Swinton, Javier Bardem, Susan Sarandon among many others pledge not to work together with the Israeli film industry implicated with the oppression of Palestinians. 

8 September: Italian Fans turned their backs at Israels anthem and held up signs for peace during the Italy-Israel qualifying game. The game was weird as Italy permitted two own goals but eventually won 5-4 with a goal in the last minutes. 

8 September: The offices of Elbit Systems in Ulm, Germany were vandalised and five people were arrested. The damages are estimated to be several hundreds of thousands of Euros.

9. September: Spain sanctioned the Israeli Ministers Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben Gvir from entering Spain. Israel has sanctioned two Spanish ministers yesterday. 

9. September: The Vuelta de Espana halted its 16th stage 8 km ahead of the goal as 3 km ahead of it there was a big pro-Palestinian protest.

9 September: Anuparna Roy won the Orizzonti Award for Best Director at the Venice Film Festival and pledged support for Palestine in her acceptance speech 

9 September: The Davis Cup game between Canada and Israel will closed to the public due to concerns over protests. 400 Canadian sports persons have demanded that the game should not be played.

10 September: The EU will suspend funding for Israel and freeze 14 Bio. Euro in cooperation. That’s good but why not earlier? 

11 September; Israel Tech will not add Israels name on their shirts while competing in Montreal. 

11 September: Ireland  will not take part in the ESC if Israel takes part. 

11 September: The city of Ghent cancels an event of the Munich Philharmonic for its Israeli conductor  

11 September: Number of signatories of members of the Film Industry who boycotts the Israeli film industry grows to 4000

11 September: The Netherlands plans to ban imports of Israeli settlements in Palestine. The new foreign minister of The Netherlands signed a decree to issue a ban as soon as possible. The last dutch foreign minister resigned over a lack of will to sanction Israel further.

11 September: The UniBar in Adelaide cancelled the sold out show of the Israeli DJ Infected Mushroom over his stance on Palestine.

11 September: Women in German conference at UMass Amherst does not permit the attendance of scholars that are funded by the Israeli state. This is framed as a boycott of Israeli by the Brandeis University, which it is not as the Women in German publicly announced that Israeli scholars can participate and will be assisted in attending the conference without funding by the state os Israel.

12 September: All seven Israeli chess players withdrew after they were not permitted the play under their flag also two Grand Masters from the Sestao Basque Championship in Spain.

12. September: The Netherlands announced that they will not participate in the Eurovision Contest if Israel will participate.

14 September 2025: The Vuelta de Espana abruptly ended after the 55th Kilometer on the 20th Stage because of pro-Palestine protests. Jonas Vingegaard was declared the winner of the whole Vuelta. Probably one of the most significant pro-Palestine protests in sports. 7 stages of one of the largest bicycle roundtrips had to end early because of protests.

14 September: At the Emmy Awards, Hannah Einbinder, Javier Bardem and other actors raised awareness for Gaza. Javier Bardem even wore a Kuffiyeh. 

14 September: The  Hermanos Perdidos canceled their concert at the Generationenfestival after they were not permitted to have flat of Palestine on stage.

15th September: The Royal Academy of Defense Studies in the United Kingdom bans Israeli citizens for escalating the Gaza war.

15 September: Spain cancelled ca. 700 Mio. of Euro contract with Elbit Systems and ca. 300 Mio. Euro with Rafael.  

15 September: Luxembourg will recognise Palestine at the UN General Assembly this September. 

15 September: Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez demanded Israel to be banned from international sports events.

16 September: Spain announced it will boycott the ESC if Israel takes part.

16 September: Australian Superfund HESTA divests from Israeli banks.

16 September: US lobby firm SDKD drops Israel as a client. The contract should have lasted until March 2026 and they were hired to raise the Israeli point of view of the extermination campaign in Gaza

17 September: The movie The Sea, which is about a Palestinian adolescent who wants to see the sea won several Ophirs and will be the Israeli film for the Oscars 2026. Following the Israeli Minister of Culture said that it would end the sponsorship for the Ophirs 2026.

17 September: The Director of the Politecnico of Torino has suspended Pini Zorea, a professor of the Israeli Braude College in Karmiel. Zorea called the IDF the most clean army in the world and students questioned him for signing Israeli bombs.

18 September: Spain threatens to boycott FIFA world cup if Israel will qualify.

18 September: The port of the Italian city of Ravenna refused entry to a weapons transport on two trucks that carried weapons for Israel.

18 September: In London, UK the Together for Palestine event took place with a very prominent line up including Billie Eilish, Cillian Murphy, Nene Cherry, Eric Cantona, Javier Bardem…

18 September: MPs Ayoub Khan and Jeremy Corbyn demanded of Aston Villa that it does not play against Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Europe League. An other local politician supported the move as well.

18 September: Bohemian FC, FairSquare and Irish Sports for Palestine demand that the Israeli Football Association be suspended from the UEFA.

19 September: A concert of classical music was performed on the Market of the Gendarms in Berlin in memory of the children of Gaza.

19 September: Over 400 musicians, among them Massive Attack remove their music from streaming services in Israel over Palestine.

19 September: About 55 Members of the European Parliament urge the EBU to expel Israel from the Eurovision Contest 2026.

19 September: Universitas Indonesia inaugurated a UI-Palestine Center in Jakarta.

20 September: Portugal to recognise Palestine at the UNGA.

20 September: Nicoletta Della Valle, the Swiss security director who opposed the event by Ali Abunimah had her speech at the University of Bern cancelled.

20 September: Polands Minister of culture has also demanded Israel to be expelled from the Eurovision contest.

21 September: Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom recognise Palestine

21 September: Portugal recognizes Palestine.

21 September: Dutch MP Esther Ouwehand sent out of Parliament for wearing a dress in the Palestinian flag. She returned in a watermelon themed dress.

21 September: The Icelandic singer Björk has removed its music from the streaming platforms of Spotify and Apple in Israel.

21 September: A concert with the Philharmonic of Munich with the Israeli conductor Lahav Shani was interrupted by a pro Palestine protest

21 September: Israel was excluded from the Tourism fair in Rimini over its war against Palestine.

22 September: Factor Bikes demands a name and flag change of Israel Premier Tech in order to continue as a sponsor of the bikes for the team. During the Vuelta de Espana, Israel Premier Tech faced many protests which lead to crashes and shortenings of stages.

22 September: The Spanish football club Athletic Club Bilbao partnered with UNRWA to aid Palestinian children.

22 September: France, Malta, Luxembourg and Monaco announced the recognition of Palestine as a state at the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York.

22 September: An Australian politician of the Green Party was awarded 22’000 Australian Dollars in legal costs after having been beaten by the police in a pro-Palestinian protest.

22 September: Oscar winning Film director Michel Gondry withdraws from the Sderot Film Festival over Palestine and joins the Hollywood boycott.

23 September: The UN experts demand for Israel tp be expelled from the FIFA and the UEFA as they are bound by the international human rights law to do so. They have also mentioned that they have observed repeated demands from civil society of the expulsion of Israel.

23 September: The city council of Amsterdam bans the Israeli football club Maccabi Tel Aviv from its venues over Gaza. The filer of the motion said that the core of the Maccabi fans supports genocide.

23 September: Indonesia offered to send 20’000 or also more peace keeping troops for Gaza once the UN Security Council demands it.

23 September: 3 board members of the Italian broadcast RAI will withdraw if Israel will be permitted to compete at the ESC.

24 September: An Australian journalist was awarded another ca. 100’000 US$ over her sacking for a post for Gaza. She was awarded a ca. 50’000 US$ before. for the same firing.

24 September: AkademikerPension Fund of Denmark excludes Israeli assets over the war in Palestine. Israeli bonds and government held companies are to be excluded.

24 September: The Canadian Premier Tech, the Title Sponsor for Israel Premier Tech said the team needs to remove Israel from its name. Premier tech has supported Canadian cyclists for years, but in the current situation this is not possible with Israel in the teams name.

25 September: The Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu was issued a travel ban by Slovenia.

25 September: MEP Lynn Boylan takes also part in the current Global Sumud Flotilla

25 September: Italy and Spain both deployed navy ships to safeguard the Sumud Freedom Flotilla towards Gaza.

25 September: Spain cancelled a contract with the Israeli weapons manufacturer Rafael valued at ca. 200 Mio. €

25 September: Microsoft withdraws the cloud service Azure from the Israeli Military Unit 8200 after an investigation by The Guardian and the Israeli Local Call showed it was used to identify targets for the IDF.

25 September: The UEFA will vote next week if to exclude Israel from its tournaments. The vote is expected to take place before the 6 of October. The exclusion will likely pass, as only a simple majority is needed. Demands for Israels exclusion have gained prominence in the last week with an UN panel demanding the exclusion of Israel from International football bodies.

25 September: The former Vice-President Kamala Harris was heckled by Palestine protesters over her support for Israel in the war in Gaza on her book launch.

25 September: The 4 German MPs Cansin Köktürk, Lisa Schubert, Charlotte Neuhäuser and Vinzenz Glasner are expelled from the Bundestag over a Palestine Flag.

25 September: Fans of PAOK Thessaloniki demanded the exclusion of Israel from the UEFA before the match against Maccabi Tel Aviv. It argued that Israel does not belong to Europe and that football should remain a play of joy and be compromised by Israels actions in Gaza.

25 September: The EBU is to decide on the participation at the ESC in November in a democratic way. Its speculated its because several countries have announced they will not take part if Israel is taking part.

26 September: Slovenia will not take part in the ESC if Israel participates.

26 September: Many representatives at the United Nations General Assembly walk out as Benjamin Netanyahu begins to speak.

26 September: Actress Jennifer Lawrence condemned Israelis warfare against Palestinians as a genocide at the San Sebastián Film Festival.

27 September: The President of Argentina Javier Milei requested from Benjamin Netanyahu to delay his visit to Argentina over concerns it would affect his popularity ahead of the elections.

27 September: Israel Premier Tech was excluded from the Giro di Emilia Romagna allegedly over security concerns.

27 September: 60-100’000 thousand protest for Gaza in Berlin, Germany.

27 September: Large manifestations for Palestine and against Israel were held in several cities in Switzerland and in Berlin. In Berlin the demonstrators demanded sanctions against Israel

27 September: 48 US lawmakers urge to recognise the State of Palestine.

27 September: 48 Athletes among which figures also Paul Pogba demanded that Israel be banned from sports. The same day also the Turkish Football Association demanded Israels suspension from the UEFA.

27 September: A Israeli Youth Orchestra was not permitted to rent a speaker in Bavaria, Germany after it refused to clarify what they were going to play and their stance on the Israeli actions in Gaza. The company said it worked together with Israeli orchestras who bring Palestinians and Israeli together, but refused to work together with people who sing nationalistic songs and pursue the goal of territorial expansion.

27 September: Colombias President Gustavo Petro had his US visa withdrawn for his allegedly incendiary remarks during a pro-Palestinian protest in New York City.

29 September: UK Finance Minister Reeves was heckled by a pro-Palestine protest.

29 September: The Trapani Sharks demands of the FIBA to expel Israeli clubs of the European competition Champions League for the oppression of Palestinians. The Trapani Sharks have been drawn into a group together with Bnei Herzliya.

29 September: The set of Israeli Dj Roi Perez was cancelled at the Origin festival over a demand by the Ravers for Palestine collective. Roi Perez has previously acted at events in the Berghain and the boiler room.

29 September: Three Turkish drones circle above the Sumud Flotilla approaching Gaza protecting it from foreign drones.

29 September: Spain blocked the US from sending weapons to Israel through its military bases Rota and Moron in Spain.

29 September: The British Labour Party members have voted to declare a genocide taking place in Gaza and that the UK Government is to suspend trade and weapons agreements with Israel. This position is at odds with the official position of the Government that has refused to declare it a genocide.

29 September: New Zealand did not recognise Palestine after a vote in Parliament in September, which lead to harsh criticism by many former and acting politicians of New Zealand. Its prime minister said in August that recognition is only a matter of time and not if or not.

30 September: Norways Football association demanded the suspension of Israel from international football championships.

30 September: The UEFA delayed a vote on the exclusion of Israel over the “peace initiative” by Donald Trump. The peace deal more or less demands the breach of human rights of the Palestinians, and their submission to the will of Israel, but maybe an international force will protect Gaza from Israel, which then would
